The Third Time Was Not A Charm

Park just called.  He is in Mexico riding his dirt bike, if you recall.  But he is not riding his dirt bike anymore.  And no.  The trip isn't over.

His bike "blew up."  Awesome.  While he was riding, his back tire locked up.  Oil started spewing from "the case."  He skidded on the road for 100 ft then started fishtailing.  He then decided to lay the bike down.  Thankfully, he's not hurt.  Just a bruise on the hip.

Luckily, this all went down close to a gas station where they were riding, in the middle of nowhere, on the way to Bay of LA.  At this gas station, in the middle of nowhere, just happened to be a "Mexican taxi guy" who offered to take Park the 300 miles back to San Felipe where the riders will be finishing tomorrow.  The catch?  He wanted $600.  Park didn't have $600.  But he did have $300.  So Park and his dirt bike made the 300 mile journey back to San Felipe with "Mexican taxi guy" and "Mexican taxi guy's" uncle.

Park reassured me that both Mexicans ONLY drank 20 beers EACH on the drive to San Felipe.  Park thought he was going to die.  But.  He's not dead.

He made it alive to San Felipe at 3:00 am this morning.  He slept in Dennis' SUV.  He has all day today, then another night in the SUV, and then Dennis, Austin, and the rest of the riders should be back in San Felipe sometime tomorrow.

Park is alive.  That's really all that matters.  But.  His bike is "destroyed."  It will supposedly cost lots and lots of money to fix this "blow up."  Lots and lots of money that we don't have.  Park won't be riding his dirt bike for a while.

No. The third time was not a charm.

Says Park, " I am never coming down here to do this again.  I have the worst luck."

Says Anna, "That's what you said the first year."

I'm glad Park is safe!! So bummed he didn't get to finish, though. Geez, there is some serious bad luck associated with that trip. Shoot.
