We Told Mamie

Park and I decided to tell my mom that I was pregnant this morning.  Because we both live with her, I knew it was going to be very hard to keep this from her for long.  I'm not the greatest actress, and I knew that I would soon run out of excuses about why I wasn't feeling very well.

If you know my Nelson family at all, you know that my Grandy gives all of her children and grandchildren a book for their birthday and for Christmas...but the best thing about it is that she writes a personal message inside the cover to everyone.  So, I decided that I would pick out a children's book for my mom and write a message on the inside cover from Baby Sorenson.  I picked out this book for her.

On the inside cover I wrote:

Mamie,

I can't wait for you to read this book to me after I arrive on April 30, 2011.  I love you and can't wait to meet you.

Love,
Baby Sorenson

And if you know my mom at all, you know that she cried.  She is SO SO SO excited!  This is going to be her first grandchild.  Just thinking about it makes me so happy.  She is going to be the best Mamie ever.

I'm sure that you are wondering how and why we decided that she would be called Mamie.  A few weeks ago my sister Mary and I were sitting in my mom's bedroom and somehow got on the topic of what our future children would call their Grandma (my mom).  We call my mom's mom Grandy, we called my dad's mom Grammy, and we call both my mom's dad and my dad's dad Grampy.  So you see, just plain "Grandma" isn't going to cut it.  Somehow we settled on Mamie...I can't really remember how.  So, she is Mamie.  I love it, and so does she.

Now...if she can just keep this a secret for a few more weeks...
