About a week and a half ago we found out that Park's mom, Cathy, has cancer. She has been through a series of tests this past week, including biopsies, CT scans, an ERCP...just to name a few.
Today, as a family, we met at the Cancer Center at IMC with several oncologists to discuss Cathy's case, her diagnosis, and her treatment options. We were there for 4 hours, met with a nurse, a medical oncologist, a radiation oncologist, a surgical oncologist, a social worker, and a dietitian.
We asked lots and lots of questions, and learned a few things; mainly that they are 99.9% sure that Cathy has gallbladder and biliary duct cancer that has possibly spread to her liver. She will undergo a gallbladder biopsy tomorrow morning so that the doctors can be 100% sure that she does indeed have cancer. After the results come back, IF they come back positive, she will then start chemotherapy. The doctors' hope, and all of our hopes is that she responds to the chemotherapy, shrinking the tumors. Until then, we wait...and pray. After 6 weeks of chemotherapy treatment they will reassess her (with CT scans, MRI scans, etc.) to see how she is responding and will then go from there.
Please keep praying for Cathy and our Sorenson family, that we can all be strong and continue forward with hope and faith.
My brother-in-law, Elliot, has started a blog for Cathy. The link is here: http://cathysorenson.blogspot.com/
The blog will be a way for our Sorenson family to give updates on her condition and treatment.
